Tongits

What is a Tongit? I had no clue so I searched for the definition on Google. Unfortunately it just asked “Did you mean tonight?” No! I mean Tongit! The best I can find is that it’s the name of a Filipino rummy card game. It’s also the name of one of the first games to be released for Adobe Air 1.0. After a few games I started getting the hang of it and having fun. Overall it’s a great game with a pretty challenging AI. The graphics could be a little better, but it doesn’t detract too much. If you have ever played Gin Rummy this game will come pretty quickly for you. If you don’t feel like reading through the 2 pages of instructions included with the game read on for my quick start.

The Setup
1. Your hand
2. Gameplay options
3. Organize your cards however you want in this area.
4. Play your sets and straights in this area
5. Info pallet
6. Discard Pile (You can also draw from here if you can play the card you draw right away)
7. Draw Pile
8. Opponents played sets and straights. (Note that you can play off of these sets and straights by dragging your cards to them.)
9. Opponents hand.
Points
3 of a kind
4 of a kind
Straights (3 or more successive cards of the same suit) i.e. 3,4,5 of Hearts
Gameplay in a nutshell
1. Draw a card from the Drawing pile or the discard pile. If you pick from the discard pile you must play the card right away or it won’t let you discard.
2. Play your sets and/or straights.
3. Discard a card.
The rest will come to you by watching the computer beat you a few times! Have you played? What did you think?
