Traffic Jam
After a few weeks of the blog being live, I am very excited to bring you our first in-house Adobe® Airâ„¢ game. It’s basically an old game with a slick new look. It gets very challenging, and at some point you might even ask yourself if a particular level is even possible. But I assure you, they all are! You will start thinking outside of the box after a few of the more challenging levels. Levels of addiction may vary from user to user. I for one, am an addict already! See how fast you can beat the game!
Objective
Re-arrange all the vehicles on the screen so that you can free the red car from the traffic jam.
Features
The game saves itself and pauses the time when you exit, so you don’t have to worry about losing your place if you have to shut your computer down. If you want to start over just click the New Game. If you want just restart a level from scratch, click Restart Level.
Options
New Game, Restart Level, Fullscreen mode, and Mute sound.I am going to refrain from rating the game for now.
If it gets on the Adobe® Air™ Marketplace I will pull the rating from there at some point. Try the game out, let me know what you think! My good friend Dustin did all the programming and I did the graphics & music. If you have any questions about the procedure feel free to post or e-mail me at phil@theairgames.com
Update
Check out the Review from Jan V. on Adobe’s Marketplace! Thanks for the 5 star rating!
Great game, easy to lose track of time with! Very easy to learn and user friendly; it’s a great way to improve your problem solving skills! The only addition I would like to see is a public scoreboard with the fastest completion times. Again, great game, keep up the good work! -Jan V.

Great game! I’m currently on level 31. Been playing for 180 minutes already but was playing while surfing the net (alt+tabbing). Got stuck on a few tricky levels. Very addicting! The graphics is simple but quite nice, just enough for the game. Will finish the game tomorrow after I get a good night’s sleep.
Thanks a lot Rico! Level 40 is pretty hardcore, hopefully you rest well!
Finished the game!

Loved it!

Btw Phil, I keep on encountering this error when opening pages:
“This page requires AC_RunActiveContent.js.”
I’m running Firefox 2 on XP.
Thanks Rico, fixed!
Played the game again, this time I didn’t alt+tab, I closed the game instead to freeze the timer (btw a timer freeze feature when the game window loses focus would be a nice addition, the game screen should be masked of course during pause). Finished all 40 levels in 99 minutes! Well I’ve already solved them once so it was easier the 2nd time around. Still got stuck on the same tricky levels.

I have to ask how you made the awesome levels, did you manually create each level or you made your own automated level generator?
I’ve seen similar games before but never played them thinking the game was boring, boy I was wrong. I never thought the game would be this fun. I also think this kind of game has potential commercially.
Wow! Good time Rico! Thats quite a bit better than I have gotten so far! For the first version of the game we just copied the levels from the original Rush Hour game. I’ve been thinking about possibly releasing a sequel with a bunch more levels for a couple dollars after this makes the rounds. Do you think it would be worth it? Thanks again for all the great feedback, I like your idea of pausing it when the game window is not focused and block the view so people can’t cheat the time. I will try to get that incorporated this week if it’s not too crazy at work!
Yup definitely it’s worth it. Maybe sell 60+ level packs for 2 or even 3 bucks each. Similar business model as “episodic” games. Good luck with the game! Nice work!
