Tongits

What is a Tongit? I had no clue so I searched for the definition on Google. Unfortunately it just asked “Did you mean tonight?” No! I mean Tongit! The best I can find is that it’s the name of a Filipino rummy card game. It’s also the name of one of the first games to be released for Adobe Air 1.0. After a few games I started getting the hang of it and having fun. Overall it’s a great game with a pretty challenging AI. The graphics could be a little better, but it doesn’t detract too much. If you have ever played Gin Rummy this game will come pretty quickly for you. If you don’t feel like reading through the 2 pages of instructions included with the game read on for my quick start.

The Setup
1. Your hand
2. Gameplay options
3. Organize your cards however you want in this area.
4. Play your sets and straights in this area
5. Info pallet
6. Discard Pile (You can also draw from here if you can play the card you draw right away)
7. Draw Pile
8. Opponents played sets and straights. (Note that you can play off of these sets and straights by dragging your cards to them.)
9. Opponents hand.
Points
3 of a kind
4 of a kind
Straights (3 or more successive cards of the same suit) i.e. 3,4,5 of Hearts
Gameplay in a nutshell
1. Draw a card from the Drawing pile or the discard pile. If you pick from the discard pile you must play the card right away or it won’t let you discard.
2. Play your sets and/or straights.
3. Discard a card.
The rest will come to you by watching the computer beat you a few times! Have you played? What did you think?

It’s actually “Tongits” (with the ’s’) and it’s fun playing this game. I find the whole deal quite addicting so much so that I get to sleep late in the night.
That explains it! I figured there must be a singular version of the word. I’m so English…
Hey thanks for featuring my game!
My pleasure! Thanks for releasing the only game for Adobe Air so far!
Oh btw, also take a look at http://chipwits.com/
It’s actually the first game built on AIR, been out months before my game. It used to be listed on the Adobe AIR marketplace. The author is currently working on making the game run on AIR 1.0 so this is probably the reason why it was (temporarily) removed from the air marketplace.
My Filipino friends at work showed me how to play Tongits. We play all the time at lunch and I got hooked on the game. I guarantee that if you download the game and try it, you’ll want to buy the game for only 5 bucks to continue playing it. I’ve played the game over 250 times now and it never gets boring. I also have to disagree about the statement in the review saying that the graphics could be a little better. The graphics are better than a lot of other card games that I’ve played. They are colorful and the cards are easy to distinguish from each other. The game is always being improved as well, so give it a try.
I am so excited about this new website!
Thanks Kyle! I am too! I am even more excited about the prospects of all the games that could be gracing all computers regardless of operating system in the very near future! This runtime really opens up the desktop app playing field to a enormous amount of people. That is exciting.
